Beige Satin Evening Coat
Uber beautiful and collectable satin evening coat from the Christian Dior 1959 Haute Couture collection, the second collection by Yves Saint Laurent at Dior. Champagne beige silk with contrasting robins egg blue silk lining. Shawl collar, bracelet length sleeves and pleated drop waist at back, creating a flared peplum effect. Three large fabric covered buttons down front. All hand stitched. A piece for a true collector or purveyor of vintage haute couture. Dated on couture tag. In very good vintage condition. After the death of Christian Dior in 1957, the house appointed Yves Saint Laurent in 1958, as he had been the first ever and only Head Assistant to Dior himself. Laurent's clothes at Dior were as meticulously made and perfectly proportioned as Dior's in the same exquisite fabrics, but the young designer made them softer, lighter and easier to wear. This coat is a stunning example of Laurent's ability to maintain the quality and workmanship Dior was known for, yet make it more wearable for the women buying Dior. Very slight flaw on the front where a cm of fabric is slightly shattered. Small discolouration spot on the collar does not detract from the excellent vintage quality of this item. Generous fit between US 4-8.
