Gold Blouse & Skirt Russian Collection Ensemble
Beautiful metallic gold blouse and skirt ensemble from the famed 1976/1977 Yves Saint Laurent Russian collection. Versions of the ensemble have been published and documented numerous times. Both pieces in the ensemble are peasant style, as were most pieces from the Russian collection. The blouse is collarless with the iconic gold coil buttons that the Russian collection is famous for. Large keyhole at bust and bishop style sleeves. The skirt is a metallic jacquard with a floral pattern throughout that looks like lace from a distance. The skirt has an elastic waistband, is tiered and maxi length. The set is composed of 56% metal and 44% silk, which is very rare for the 1970s. At the time, synthetic lamé would have been most common. This metal and silk blend would have been very costly to produce and more commonly made in the 1920s. Furthermore, Yves Saint Laurent loved to dress women in gold - the 2022 exhibition GOLD by Yves Saint Laurent celebrated and examined the role that gold played in the couturier’s work. This ensemble is in excellent vintage condition. Made in France. Marked FR size 38.
